Sylvia whipped out her phone and snapped a dozen photos of Naomi, making sure to capture every angle of the

red handprint on her face.

Naomi's voice trembled. "Sylvia, what are you doing?"

"Mom, running away won't fix anything," Sylvia replied, her tone firm. "I need to go straight to the source this

time. Stay here at the hospital and wait forto call. And promise me, no more wiring money to that man,

okay?"

"Okay," Naomi whispered, her face ghostly pale as she nodded.

After tucking Naomi in and making sure she was settled, Sylvia quietly slipped out of the hospital room.

Out in the hallway, she took a deep breath and dialed Kay's number.

It barely rang three times before Kay picked up, as if she'd been expecting the call.

"Who's this?" Kay's voice had that unmistakable air of superiority—the kind of confidence you didn't just put on.

But, to be fair, Kay had earned it.

Sylvia clenched her fist, forcing herself to sound steady. "Ms. Winslet? It's Sylvia. Can we meet up? | need to talk

to you."

"Oh? What's this about?" Kay's tone was nonchalant, impossible to read.

"There's something important we have to discuss face to face," Sylvia pushed on, biting her lip.

Sylvia was surprised when, after a brief pause, Kay simply agreed.

"I'll text you the address," Kay said.

“Alright.”

Sylvia hung up and hurried down the hall, but as she rounded the corner near the elevators, she bumped right

into Chris.

He blocked her way. "What are you doing here? Are you feeling alright?"

"I'm fine. I've got somewhere to be," Sylvia said curtly, unwilling to drag anyone else into her mess.

She tried to brush past, but Chris grabbed her arm and pulled her into a quiet alcove.

"If you don't tellwhat's going on, I'll go straight to Mr. Rupert and tell him you're faking your amnesia. You

might fool everyone else, but not your doctor."

"You know what Rupert's like. He wouldn't care if | had amnesia or not," Sylvia shot back, glaring at him, feeling

trapped.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she added, but Chris just smirked.

"Con, you and | both know the truth. I've been your accomplice this long, right?"

He pointed back and forth between them.

Sylvia hesitated, then leaned in, lowering her voice. "Fine. You helperase my mom's hospital records. And

then, get her out of here—"

She whispered the rest in his ear.

Chris's eyes widened in shock.

"If you breathe a word of this to anyone, we both go down," Sylvia warned, her eyes cold.

He knew exactly who she meant by "anyone."

"You-"

"I'm leaving," she cut him off, turning on her heel.

She hesitated just a moment, then steeled herself and walked inside, trying to look as casual as possible.

Scanning the room, she spotted Kay sitting by the window, sipping a glass of red wine, looking every bit the

Sylvia walked over and sat down across from her.

Kay barely glanced up, her sharp eyes flickering over Sylvia.

"Ms. Lloyd, doesn't this place feel familiar?" Kay asked, swirling her wine.

Sylvia didn't hesitate. “Did you have something to do with what happened to my mom?"

Kay's eyes narrowed, surprised at Sylvia's bluntness. She laughed, swirling her wine with a smirk.
