Just as Sylvia was about to collapse onto the shattered glass, someone caught her arm.
"Sylvia, what the heck is going on with you?"
It was Chris.
Spotting a familiar face, Sylvia clung to his sleeve like a drowning woman grabbing a lifeline.
Chris took one look at her pale face and quickly helped her to a chair, then cracked open a window to let some
air in.
Once she was settled, he slipped into doctor mode, checking her pulse and looking her over.
He frowned, half-grumbling, “Didn't | warn you before? Your body's running on empty, like a phone at 2%. And
now you're short-circuiting! Any longer and I'll be picking out a casket for you.”
Sylvia managed to catch her breath and shot him a glare, glancing sideways at Naomi, who was on the verge of
tears.
Chris caught the look and tried to lighten the mood. “Kidding, kidding. Just trying to remind you to take better
care of yourself."
Naomi wiped her eyes and asked, “What happened? You were fine a minute ago, and then you just collapsed."
Sylvia jumped in, "It's low blood sugar. | was rushing to bring you sfood and forgot to eat myself." "You
scared the hell out of me. Hold on, I'll get you something to eat."
Naomi patted her chest, then hurried off to scoop up ssoup for Sylvia.
Chris gave Sylvia's arm a gentle pat.
"Seriously, what's going on?"
"Low blood sugar," Sylvia repeated.

"You really love ignoring me, don't you? | even had to run over here with snews for you," Chris said, shaking
his head.
Sylvia looked up at him and managed a weak smile. “Dr. Chris, | was just worried about my mom's mental state,
but I didn't want her to know, so | made up a story.”
"That actually makes you a lot more likable," Chris grinned, flashing a big, cheesy smile.
Sylvia rolled her eyes, exasperated.
Chris jerked his head toward the door. "Let's talk outside."
Sylvia steadied herself and followed him out of the hospital room.
"So, what did you find out?"
"You textedabout Yves at lunch, remember?" Chris waved his phone.
Sylvia nodded. “Yeah, Yves is weird, but with his money, no way would he agree to a setup like this."
"You're not wrong. Because he's been married four times. Overseas."
"What? Four times? But he's only thirty! Did he just spend the last decade getting married and divorced over and
over?"
Chris's face was grim. “Nope. All four wives died."
Sylvia was momentarily speechless, a chill running down her spine. The uncomfortable feeling she'd had around
the Hanson family carne flooding back. s
"The first wife died in a car accident while pregnant. The second one-boating accident, lost at sea a Third was
kidnapped, lost too much blood after they cut off her leg. The fourth one was the weirdest on Halloween, both
thought the other was a burglar, and during the struggle, she got shot in the leg wi a hunting rifle and bied out.
He fell down the stairs and ended up in the ICU."

"Sylvia, | really think you should talk to—"
"Don't say it."
She knew exactly who Chris meant.
Rupert.
But in her past life, Rupert had chosen to lie to her for Reese.
Now, with Reese always by his side, and Kay being Reese's aunt, she knew exactly who he'd choose.
