Chapter 891
Marguerite didn't bother to answer, letting Miley rant as much as she pleased.
Sure enough, Miley launched into another tirade:
"Laura is Cresthaven's top caregiver, you know! When we looked her up, we even did a full background check-
everyone she's cared for had nothing but glowing reviews! Do you know how much a week of her services cost
me? Six figures! Can you believe that? Maurice is ruthless-l mean, pulling a stunt like this just to get a chance to
see you? It's infuriating!"
She finished, grabbed Marguerite's glass of milk, and downed it in one gulp. Then she seemed to notice
something. "Wait, why are you packing your clothes? Don't tellyou're actually planning to go over there and
take care of him! Have you lost your mind?"
Miley lunged for Marguerite's leather tote, but Marguerite finally looked up at her and said calmly, "Didn't Hayes
tell you? I'm taking him to that field trip tomorrow. Don't worry, | know what I'm doing. | called Janie-she's going
over to help out."
Miley blinked, suddenly let go of the bag, and didn't seem the least bit embarrassed. "Well, at least you're

Marguerite couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head at Miley's tics. She leaned in and whispered, "Miley,
you really shouldn't get so worked up while you're pregnant. Aren't you worried the little one can hear you? What
if the baby takes after your temper?"
"Oh, please. It's just a tiny embryo right now-it can't possibly hear me."
"Says who? Sparents start playing music for their babies during the first month. If the baby can't hear, why
bother?"
Miley suddenly looked alarmed. She cradled her belly and hurried to sit down on the bed, cooing, "Sweetheart,
Mommy was just joking with Aunt Marguerite, okay? Don't take it to heart. Mommy's a very gentle woman, |
promise."
Marguerite just chuckled, shaking her head and letting Miley fuss over her unborn child.
A few minutes later, Hayes burst through the door. He dashed over to Marguerite's vanity, grabbed a necklace,
and hurried over to her.
"Mommy, don't forget to wear this tomorrow!"
Marguerite looked closely-it was the gold sapphire necklace. On the back of the pendant, four words were
engraved: Peace and Joy.
The original had vanished three
years ago, never to be found. This

death. Marguerite had gone to the Graceful Light Chapel in Stonebridge City to commission a replacement in her
grandmother's memory.
As she took the necklace, Hayes, worried she might be suspicious, quickly explained, "Mommy, the sapphire
necklace is your good luck charm. It'll keep you safe. So when
we're out and about, you have to wear it, okay?"
Marguerite smiled and ruffled his hair. "You're such a thoughtful boy."
The next morning, bright and early.
The preschool had rented a coach bus to shuttle the children and their parents to the field trip.
Marguerite tucked the sapphire necklace beneath her collar, grabbed her leather tote, and waited at the front
door. Soon, she saw the big yellow bus pull up.
Taking Hayes by the hand, she climbed aboard and immediately spotted Margot and Silas sitting in the front row.
Margot caught her eye, quickly
moving her things to free up the seat
beside her. Miley beamed and-
