Chapter 1862

Marlowe found herself at the hospital, only to be stopped by the receptionist.

I dont understand.

Why cant | see Mitchel? Marlowe asked, frustration creeping into her voice.

The receptionist eyed her warily.

Dr.

Chadwick is very busy.

You need an appointment, which Im afraid you dont have.

| cant let you in.

But Im just here to return his coat, Marlowe said, holding up the bag in her hand. The receptionist frowned.

She looked at Marlowe, noting her earnest expression.

After a moments deliberation, she placed an internal call to Mitchel.

Only after receiving confirmation did she let Marlowe in.

Marlowe went upstairs to Mitchels office.

When Marlowe arrived, Mitchel was engrossed with his students, unaware of her presence.

Marlowe hesitated, watching him from the doorway.

She felt a complex mix of emotions.

How could someone as remarkable as Mitchel ever consider her worthy of being together with him? Nervously

biting her lip, Marlowe decided against interrupting Mitchel.

She quietly placed the coat on a nearby table, preparing to slip away unnoticed.

Just as she turned to leave, she saw Michel standing in front of her.

W-When did you walk over here? Marlowe stammered, startled.

Just now, Mitchel replied.

Why didnt you tellyou are here just now? | saw that you were busy and didnt want to disturb you, Marlowe

replied, not daring to meet Michels gaze.

Before Michel could say anything, Marlowe quickly added, Ive already brought your coat here.

1 will leave now.

Mitchel looked momentarily surprised but nodded.

Letwalk you out.

Theres no need for that.

You can go on with your work, Marlowe said. | can find my way out.

In truth, the hospital was a labyrinth.

Marlowe had already struggled to locate Mitchel office earlier, navigating through a maze of corridors.

Mitchel glanced at his watch.

Its nearly noon.

Walking you out wont be a problem for me.

Marlowe froze as realization struck her.

She had spent so much ton the way here that she had arrived here over an hour late.

Embarrassed, Marlowe rubbed the back of her head and said, Im sorry for being late.
